Scilly is a great place to write -- especially in the off-season months. The greatest distraction is the beautiful scenery. My main activity aside from writing (and looking at the view while thinking about writing) is following the many paths on the island. Each offers a more magnificent view than the last.
I like to visit Scilly after the birdwatchers leave in October and before the holiday makers arrive in April.
Even during that time there are many occasions to sit in the garden and work. As you scroll through the pictures loading at right, you will notice palm trees interspersed with the plants and flowers you expect to find in an English garden.
The Isles of Scilly sit at 49 degrees north 6 degrees west -- twenty-eight miles off the southwest tip of England. The palm trees are part of the lanscape because of the proximity of the Gulf Stream. |
